The IMU's first edition will take you on the scenic and breathtaking views of the Itogon mountains.
MT. ULAP is one of the most visited mountains in the Philippines. Offering scenic views of the Cordillera mountain range. Mt. Ulap has three well-known peaks. The first known peak is Ambanao Paoay which has an elevation of 1,788 MASL. The second one is Gungal Rock which stands at 1,814 MASL and the third is the summit which has an elevation of 1,846 MASL.
MT. BIDAWAN is a pine-forested historical mountain with an elevation of 1,240 Meters Above Sea Level (MASL) situated within the barangays Poblacion, Tinongdan, and Dalupirip in the municipality of Itogon. It used to be the trail of the locals and missionaries who used to cross the boundaries of these barangays long before the opening of the road networks. It was also the trail of Filipino, American, and Japanese soldiers during the war. Mt. Bidawan was declared by the municipality as a wildlife sanctuary because of the presence of wild animals.
On the saddle adjoining Mt. Bidawan and Mt. Cotcot is Ave Maria Shrine where a grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary was constructed. A foreign missionary priest moved for its construction within the trail linking barangays Dalupirip and Poblacion on June 20, 1959. A regular prayer meeting by devotees was then held at the area, thus, the name. However, its destruction was perpetrated by some unscrupulous individuals. With the introduction of ecotourism activities in the Barangay and with the support of the Catholic society, its revival/reconstruction is being proposed and considered to become a pilgrimage site of the barangay.
MT. KOTKOT with an elevation of 1,430 MASL has a hidden beauty that will give you an extreme experience with its scenic forested trails overlooking mountains and it even gets better once you explore the ridges while eating wild strawberries and guavas along the trails.
